The WWW.SMYTH1.NET Web Site
January 30, 2003 - June 1, 2010
A Tidbit of Internet Info:....................       A web site is located on the internet at a given address known as a URL which stands for "Uniform Resource Locator" -- The addresses are actually made up of numbers such as 66.7.217.179 and you can go to the www.smyth1.net web site using the numbers of 66.7.217.179/~smyth in the URL address window of your browser. The URL Window is where the http://www.?????.??? is located.

Not commonly known is the fact that all "Home" or "Main Page" of a web site are named "index.html". This is because the browsers are programed to load the index file at the URL address.

The other linked pages on a web site can be named anything but, the main page must be named INDEX and yes there are some exceptions to this rule and other ways to do it but, most all web sites use INDEX.

Each web site using the main or primary domain name is equipped with a control panel and one of the more common ones is called "cPanel" which is what HasWeb and Host Dime uses - The control panel is used to set up AddOn domain names and e-mail addresses, counters and many other devices as reflected on this web page.

Ray simply put up this web page to reflect the status of the www.smyth1.net prior to being upgraded to a more flexible hosting plan at Host Dime and to provide information to others interested in how a web site works.

For the record, HasWeb and Host Dime are both owned by the same person located in Orlando, Florida and the smyth1.net website was hosted by HasWeb until upgraded to Host Dime.

In other words it makes no different were your go to "smyth1.net" or "raysmyth.net" you will get the same web site. The use of the word "POINTS" simply means the Domain Name is directed to a certain address on the internet.

For Example, The folder "wtscouts" is for the "westtexasscoutinghistory.net" Web Site used by Frank Hilton in Brownwood, Texas and he has an FTP account with his own password that takes him directly to the wtscouts folder so he can update the Boy Scout Web Site located on the smyth1.net Web Site.
